Isn't it wonderful being a woman? Throughout my many years, I've never wished to be a man—except perhaps when hiking or skiing. Women are truly remarkable beings, yet we often fail to give ourselves the credit we deserve.
How often do we deflect compliments? When someone acknowledges our hard work, we tend to downplay it, saying, "Oh, it was nothing." When someone admires our outfit, we often respond with, "I got it on sale with a coupon!" Instead, we should simply say, "Thank you very much." Accepting compliments graciously is a small but significant step toward appreciating ourselves.
First and foremost, we must recognize our own worth. We can't rely on others to validate us. Take a moment to reflect on all that you do. You care for children, and if you're like me, you cry tears of joy at their successes, no matter how small. You extend this empathy to their friends and even strangers. I often find myself tearing up during the Olympics, moved by the sheer joy of the athletes' achievements.
Women often take care of others at the expense of their own well-being. Whether it's your children, parents, other family members, or friends, you are there unconditionally. You love unconditionally, even when you're angry or sad. This love remains steadfast.
One of the strengths that grows stronger with time is the ability to say "no." While we may compromise on trivial matters like choosing a restaurant or a movie, we stand firm on our values and beliefs. This strength is something that often develops later in life, but it's never too late to embrace it.
You have inspired countless people over the years. You've encouraged them to be better, stronger, and to break through barriers. Even if they haven't told you, they know the impact you've had on their lives.
My wish for you is to appreciate all the wonderful qualities that make you who you are. Recognize how remarkable you are and never forget your worth. Don't let anyone diminish your value, no matter how hard they try.
According to a study by the American Psychological Association, women are more likely to experience higher levels of stress due to their caregiving roles. Yet, they are also more resilient, often finding strength in their social connections and community support (APA, 2018).
Interestingly, a report by the Pew Research Center found that 70% of women aged 50 and older feel more confident than they did in their younger years (Pew Research Center, 2017). This confidence is a testament to the resilience and strength that women develop over time.
You are strong. You are a woman. Embrace your worth and let it shine. Appreciate yourself for all that you do and all that you are. You deserve it.
By recognizing and appreciating our own worth, we can inspire others and continue to grow stronger every day. Let's celebrate the unique strengths that make us who we are.
