Z Wave is a wireless communication protocol based on radio frequency, which can be a great solution for smart home. It enables to control home lighting, blind, door lock, thermostats and others and makes lighting control more intelligent and automated.
A Z Wave system shall contain three parts: a primary or gateway controller, secondary controllers and devices. A primary/gateway controller is responsible for network administration or bridge to other network. Each system has only one primary/gateway controller. It can include secondary controllers and devices into the network then control the devices from the gateway APP interface. For lighting, the devices are Z Wave dimmer or switch. Secondary controllers and Z Wave dimmers shall be added to network, then associated with each other by gateway from APP interface so that the dimmers can be controlled by the secondary controllers. Z Wave remotes are secondary controllers. Each network allows up to 243 devices.
Z Wave system allows control from the gateway APP interface or the added secondary controllers. Group control is available, which means you can add Z Wave dimmers to different groups or associate them with different groups of the remotes. Each groups can associate maximum 20 devices. This enables you to control lighting in different areas of your house separately. Z Wave also support scene storage and recall function, which enables you to save scenes for different groups and recall them.
And you can set up events for different rooms at different times with different dynamic or static lighting effects for your house from gate way interface. The events will be triggered automatically at the time set. For example, you can set up a brightness level for dinning room at dinner time, then when you have dinner, the brightness level will automatically change to the set level. Or you can set up a dynamic color changing mode for a party in Sunday, it’s just so simple.
Cloud control from internet is a great advantage of Z Wave once the gateway is configured to connect to Ethernet. Remote monitor and control of your home lighting is possible from internet even if you're thousands of miles away.
