Z wave home automation is a smart control solution that enables users to control all their home appliances, lighting switches and dimmers, blinds, thermostats, door locks etc. While used for lighting control, z wave enables various functions such as switching ON/OFF, dimming, group, scene and so on.
Z wave is a mesh network based on RF technology. A z wave system shall consist of a primary controller (gateway), secondary controllers, and dimmers or LED drivers. The primary controller (gateway) is the one that administrates the network and adds or removes secondary controllers and devices to or from the network. The gateway can be a mobile phone APP that can directly control the drivers added to the network. The secondary controllers are remote controllers that can be added or removed by the gateway, they are the ones to control the devices. Both the secondary controllers and devices shall be added to the network so that they can send and receive signals.
Each Z wave network allows up to 243 devices, which is enough for home lighting control. The signal transmit distance between every two devices can be up to 30 meters. Since z wave devices are transceivers that not only receive but also send out signal, the signal can be synchronized wirelessly to increase the control distance drastically.
The secondary controllers support group function which enables users to control different areas of their home lighting separately and each group can add up to 20 devices. Plus they support scene function which enables you to save and recall scenes for different groups.
Z wave lighting devices are available for monochrome, dual color, RGB and RGBW LED lighting with DC input, which are suitable for LED strip lights, panel lights, downlights and so on. An AC-DC power supply is required for the device. With corresponding secondary controllers, you can switch ON/OFF, adjust brightness, adjust color temperature, RGB color, play built-in color running modes, save and recall scenes.
