Your humble beginning as a volunteer in India can help the head of a poor family!

Day by day, as the average population in India sees a rapid rise in their incomes, there are still people who live below the poverty line, that is, they live below the minimum amount that anyone earns, maybe even 2 or 3 dollars on a daily basis.

You can volunteer in India to change that. You can actually bring smiles to the faces of so many Indians that only have tears for so many of their living years. Aside from the usual donation or a cheque for their poverty laden recipients, you can also donate the most valuable component, that of time, by giving off time for the daily activities that people living below the poverty line are subject to.

There are so many people who would do anything for that extra meal in a day, or that sweater that means nothing to you, but means the world for so many abandoned children. You could donate a toy set, or a set of uniforms for their school. You could donate a tiffin or some old, extra clothes. Nothing is ever enough for those who are abjectly suffering in poverty. Even a tent, or toiletries, or medications etc are the most that you can give. You can actually give an entire childhood back for those who haven’t smiled in years.

You can give your time to the sick and needy, or the old and abandoned. You can take over an entire family’s finances or make sure that their kids make it in school.

It’s not the fact that so many people are poor and abandoned that strikes a chord with like-minded people, but it’s the fact a single person can do so much to bring about change in another person’s life. You are the creator of so many people’s lives that have gone astray due to some misfortune. You can make sure that so many people get relief from their camping grounds on the streets and avail of concrete structures they call ‘home’, instead of shanties that can barely take on the troubles of extreme weather.

You should volunteer in India so that you can live with a clear conscience that something has been done about the ones living in abject poverty; those to whom life has not given a second chance; those that have no place to go to after a hard day’s work, and those that survive on almost nothing each passing day. You are just a wee bit away from assuming the status of god.
