Students become eligible to take the licensure exam after completing state approved nurse aide training program that contains at least 60 hours of educational course and 80 hours of practical nursing skills.
In Alaska, Pearson VUE regulates the nurse aide certification Exams and students need to fill and submit the exam application form to the agency to take the licensure test. Besides this, they may also have to complete many other prerequisites to get eligibility to appear in the certification test.
Prerequisites for CNA Certification Test
Students must meet all eligibility requirements of certification test as prescribed by the board of nursing to take the exam and these prerequisites include:
• Must submit a finger print report
• Must be trained in a recognized CNA school
• Pass the criminal back ground check
• Must go for drug test and tuberculin skin test
• Must have CPR certification
After completing all above requirements, a student is eligible to take the licensure examination.
In Alaska, CNA certification exam has two parts; one is written and second is practical. In order to gain certification, students must clear both parts of examination. Students who qualify the test successfully are able to get listed in the state Nurse Aide Registry. Certification allows them to work as a certified nurse aide in state health care facilities.
Transfer of CNA certification
In the state of Alaska, it is possible to transfer CNA certification from any other US state. For that you must meet following requirement:
• Submit a proof of completing approved nurse aide training program in your own state.
• Verification of qualifying certification test
• You must be free from any scandalous issue.
• You must be registered in your state nurse aide registry
Renewal of Certification
In Alaska, CNA certification gets expired after every two years and students are required to renew their certificates before expiration. In order to renew their license, students must submit a renewal form to state nurse aide registry with renewal fees. The State Nurse Aide Registry informs to all CNAs about renewal, 60 days before their certification get lapsed.
Anyone, failing to meet the state board of nursing rules and prerequisites for renewal, must take the licensure test again and need to undergo through whole process same as before.
