Despite its compact dimensions, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini Pro is a comprehensively functional handset. It boasts similar specifications to its sister handset the XPERIA X10 Mini, however this model sees the addition of a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
The XPERIA X10 Mini Pro measures 90x52x17mm and weighs a mere 120 grams. Its small size and light weight make it a comfortable to hold and use on the go. Its finish is glossy back, with silver trim and detailing which is carried over to the keyboard also.
The XPERIA X10 Mini Pro relies on a variety of different means of connecting to cellular networks and the internet. GPRS and EDGE are utilised to connect to cellular networks in areas with little or no 3G coverage (both class 10 versions). In order to connect to the internet in areas where 3G coverage is readily available, a fast HSDPA connection (alongside HSUPA) provides the means to browse the web. A faster internet connection can be attained though, thanks to Wi-Fi. This utilises the signals provided by wireless internet routers for a faster connection and enhanced browsing experience.
A 3.5mm audio jack and a speaker phone system are both provided for hands free communication on the move. Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages via a combination of vibration and ringing, with the option to utilise MP3 files as ringtones. This allows users to customise their handsets and hear the track of their choosing whenever the phone rings.
An array of features and applications are provided as standard, catering to all manner of users. Music fans will appreciate the versatile media player which supports various formats of music and video files. A stereo FM radio player and a selection of games offer additional entertainment options. A document viewer and voice memo recorder provide productivity tools, and popular websites such as Google and YouTube can be conveniently accessed thanks to dedicated applications.
The XPERIA X10 Mini Pro utilises not only a QWERTY keyboard but also touch screen technology for navigation of the Android OS user interface. This is in the form of a 2.55 inch TFT capacitive touch screen which offers great display quality thanks to 16M colours being displayed within a pixel resolution of 240x320 pixels. An accelerometer sensor is built into the screen which allows the screen to be automatically rotated dependent upon the orientation of the phone. Therefore, the screen can be viewed in both portrait and landscape forms.
Internal memory is 128MB as standard, with a micro SD slot also provided with a pre-installed 2 GB memory card. This can be upgraded to up to 16 GB, allowing plenty of potential storage space for data such as media files.
An impressive 5 mega pixel camera is included in the handset’s impressive package, which operates at a pixel resolution of 2560x1920, therefore providing the means to take quality still images with a high level of detail and clarity. It can also shoot video at 30 frames per second in VGA quality.
The XPERIA X10 Mini Pro looks set to add to Sony Ericsson’s reputation as a manufacturer of innovative mobile phones.
