Most of us have damaged or lost our smart phones, but the question is weather a smart phone case really helps to proctect our phones. Lets investigate this...
Most of us love smartphones; but holy smokes, we do some really stupid things with them. In accordance to a survey conducted by T-Mobile, almost half of smartphone owners have either lost their phones, had them stolen or damaged them. For those who damaged the phones, 37% scratched or cracked the screen, 29% spilled liquid over them, 29% dropped them down the stairs, with 20% meeting their end in the bottom of the toilet bowl.
Investing in a case for a smartphone is a no-brainer for any smartphone owner, but even so, don't be led to think this protection is paramount. No smartphone case -- well at least one that you would actually want to carry your phone around in -- can 100% protect your device from damage. Cases also add additional bulk to your phone and may conceal some of the cool features of the phone. If you are not very careful, a case may even damage a phone. Debris and dirt may get caught in-between the phone and the case and cause some scratching.
The cases for smartphones that provide the greatest protection are typically expensive, this is especially true if you have to buy a new case every time you upgrade to a new device. Finally, a smartphone case can cover your phones ports so that you cant dock it. It can be a bit of a hassle to take you case on and off every time you want to dock the phone or hook it up to your home stereo or car.
All the above said, there a number of great reasons to invest in a smartphone case. If you got the discipline to keep the case clean and free of debris and grime build up, a decent case is actually quite effective in preventing scratches. Smartphone cases also offer protection should you drop a phone (although a case is not an excuse to see if your phone will survive a fall from your rooftop!).
Even though a case may not be as attractive as the naked phone, it helps keep all the parts working properly. Dropping a phone might not cause a lot of obvious damage, but then again without the case it is all too easy to bust the lens. Plus, with the sleek and slick finishes of some smartphones, a case with a good grip helps prevent us dropping our phones to begin with.
There are numerous water-poof smartphone cases on the market today, yet even the most basic smartphone cases should grant you the extra couple of seconds to retrieve the phone from a shallow puddle or even spilled beer! If you are a water sports lover then you will definitely want to invest in a top-of-the-line case.
So the real question is this - Will a smartphone cover really protect a phone from damage? To varying degrees yes (depending on quality and style of case), but common sense still prevails and you need to still be smart about how you take care of and use your phone. Are you still texting on the toilet!?
