Gujarat is very Enterprising State of India,Ahmedabad - A new Professional Education Destination of Western India Articles but it was lacking in quality education at higher level of study. Ahmedabad the second best Industrial capital of India, has been host to some internationally reputed institutions like, Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad(IIMA), Mudra Institute of Communication Ahmedabad (MICA), Indian Institute of Design Ahmedabad (IIDA), Nirma University, etc. for last 20-30 years.

Vikram Sarabhai and Karshanbhai Patel along with others were the spearheads of setting up some reputed academic and scientific institutions of national repute like Nirma University, Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), The Space Application Centre, and etc. in Ahmedabad. In the year 1995, State Government of Gujarat Allowed private organizations to set up colleges for professional colleges in Gujarat State which proved to be major turning point of in Education sector of Ahmedabad. Because of private participation city could see some 10 new Engineering, 15 new Management, and some 20 other institutions running professional courses.

Ahmedabad has several advantages over other big cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, etc. which I have enlisted and described below.

Economy of Life style of Ahmedabad

As a student, one has to spend some Rs. 5000 to Rs. 8000 per month to have a proper livelihood in Ahmedabad where as in other cities this figure varies from Rs. 10000 to Rs. 14000 per month. This cheaper availability of accommodation and meals attracts students from middle income group families of Gujarat and other states to Ahmedabad. This not only attracts students but also good faculty from South Indian states with equal levels of payouts.

Stiff Competition from Newly Established Institutions

In the last 5 years government gave approval to more than 20 new colleges to conduct professional courses. Due to this well established colleges in other cities are facing competition in all aspects of running a college whether it be them faculty retention, attracting good students, improving infrastructure, etc. To maintain and gain goodwill amongst institutions, established colleges and newly established Institutions regularly take measures to improve their performances in different surveys, results and audits. These regularly undertaken steps to improve the overall environment of an institute, have ultimately worked out to be an advantage for students and faculties.

Close Proximity to Industrial Zones of Country

Gujarat has some 20 percent of share in overall exports of India with the population share of just 6 percent. Ahmedabad as a commercial capital of the state is host to many large and small scale industries. These Industries be them IT Firms, Manufacturing and Engineering Units, other Consulting firms are expanding their Human recourses constantly. This expansions, always act as catalysts in the off campus and on campus recruitments. Also, presence of lots of industries helps students to get their industrial internships. As per the news and government declaration some 50 new companies are planning to start manufacturing facilities around Ahmedabad. Each them are having an employment potential of more than 1000.

MCA, Engineering, and MBA colleges in Ahmedabad find it easy to place their students in the industries established in and around the city.
