Lorena Becerra, born in Guadalajara, Mexico, is an artist unafraid to push the boundaries of traditional art forms. Her education spans continents, having studied in Florence, Italy, and under the tutelage of renowned Mexican artists Gustavo Aranguren and Ulises Gonzales. Becerra's work has been recognized in prestigious venues, including the Monterrey FEMSA Biennial.
Becerra's art is a thrilling blend of genres and materials. She employs a variety of mediums such as paint, paper, wax glazes, and found objects to create a stark yet chaotic aesthetic. Her work often includes text and photographs, juxtaposed with raw materials like paint and organic elements such as pasta. This eclectic mix results in a unique visual language that is both instinctive and all-encompassing.
Her pieces range from figure studies to abstract meditations on monochromatism and texture. Often, her work lies somewhere in between, using patterns and colors to comment on representational images that form part of a larger canvas. A defining element of her style is the combination of energetic painting with impersonal collage techniques. Bold lines drawn by her hand are juxtaposed with typewritten words, creating a dynamic interplay between personal expression and anonymous text.
The "Pathways" exhibition will also feature works from other talented artists, including:
