Bedbugs travel and can easily come home with you after a stay at a hotel, apartment building, dormitory or any other place where people rest or sleep. They can stow away in clothing, luggage or even on the bottom of your shoe. Once bedbugs enter your home, they tuck themselves into your bed. They lie dormant until nighttime when they crawl out of their hiding places.

Even vacant and seemingly clean homes may have bed bugs in them - they can survive for many months without any food. They die when the temperature inside a closed bag reaches 120 degrees or a freezing temperature of below 32 degrees. After vacuuming the entire room, spray it with an insecticide. Always read the label before using the insecticide. Apply an insecticide dust when the spray insecticide dries. It is impossible to reach all of the bedbugs in the first round of treatment, so you will have to repeat the process.
Preventing Bedbugs

Diligently take precautions against bringing bedbugs into your home. Inspect rooms when you are traveling for evidence of bedbugs. Never acquire furniture or appliances from a curbside or a Dumpster. Keep a clutter-free home so you don't give bedbugs places to hide if an infestation does develop. A bedbug infestation can become an unmanageable problem and you may not be able to get rid of them yourself. Do not hesitate to call a professional.
