Find Doctors and Maintain a Great Personal Relationship
Trying to find doctors for your needs can be a difficult task in and of itself. So, the last thing you would want to do is foul up your personal relationship with this person.
Clinicians are people we need to be able to feel comfortable around and to be able to rely upon in times of need. So,
if you are unsure as to how to maintain the best doctor/patient relationship, read over the following for advice.
Time is money in the medical field. Practitioners see entire clinic’s worth of patients daily, so make sure you are on time for an appointment. Reshuffling previously scheduled appointments is not something medical personnel enjoy doing, as they want to treat as many people as they can. Once you find doctors, if you know that you will be late for your visit, be sure to call ahead of time to see if you can be rescheduled. This is a much more courteous move than to merely show up whenever you can.
Common manners apply just as much to physicians as they do to everyone else. Just because your practitioner may deal with all sort of bodily fluids all day, does not mean they will appreciate being exposed to them. Cover your mouth if you are having a coughing or sneezing fit. Any professional’s tolerance can only go so far, and annoying your physician will not help anyone. Plus, the last person you want to make ill is a physician.
Cell phone etiquette is common sense for most people, but you would be surprised by the places people feel like talking on the phone. Either leave this gadget in the car or turn it on silent. The time you arranged to meet with your clinician is meant to discuss treating you, so utilize it as best you can.
Unless it is an emergency, you will want to clean up a bit before going in for your check up. You will find doctors have to examine all sorts of people all day, but generally like to rely on them being clean. Take a shower, or at least wear some clean clothes.
Lastly, be upfront and honest with your intentions of your appointment. We also find doctors deal with all sorts of people’s problems, but they can only deal with so many per each patient. If you have arranged for a visit to focus on treating your allergy symptoms, do not use the time to ask for help for a multitude of other problems you may have had for a long time. If you have a curious ache or pain you want an opinion on, fine. However, do not bog down a clinician’s time too much, as other people are in need of their care.
A great rapport with a practitioner is not something you want to foul up. Ideally, we all want to be as comfortable as possible around professionals who care for us. Use everyday manners and be respectful of your doctor’s time, and you will get the most out of your clinician for years to come.
