Food as a coping mechanism is sometimes called comfort eating. Eating or drinking can become a way of coping with loneliness, stress or boredom. Eventually this will lead to weight gain.
Overeating can also can also be a sign that you need to make changes in your life. Some things in life can be changed and some cannot and just have to be accepted. Try to find happiness in other areas in life and in simple things like your baby’s gorgeous smile.

Studies show that the key to permanent weight loss is to develop good habits while you lose weight. At the same time, you should develop new coping mechanisms that do not involve eating. People who have never been overweight or those who achieve long-term weight loss tend to have developed suitable coping strategies.
I’ve compiled a few suggestions:
• Nature is a great comforter and healer and it is there for all of us. An early morning or evening walk could lift your mood and benefit your health.
• When you face a difficult day, take early morning exercise. If you think, “I am just too tired to do that,” know that exercising will give you far more energy and you will feel more confident.
• After a difficult day, take an evening walk and watch the sun disappear.
• Prayer is there for all of us. It reminds us that we never walk alone.
• Confiding in others is great for putting problems into proportion and it makes friends feel valued.
Exercising is a really great coping mechanism. Certain hormones are produced during exercise and these do wonders for our sense of well-being. Exercise releases feel-good hormones called endorphins in the brain that make you feel happy and positive. Studies show that even moderate exercise makes you less likely to overeat. After several weeks of exercise you will notice that the endorphins stay in your blood longer and your mood remains elevated for longer. Early morning exercise is so important and makes you feel relaxed and positive at the start of the day.
