What are sebaceous cysts

The cysts are normally soft to the touch, because of the fluids inside the cyst. It normally develops in the scalp, face, neck and back areas. When the cyst is larger than centimeters and shows signs of infection it might be a sign of cancer and needs immediate medical care. 

Treatment options available for sebaceous cysts

There are many treatment options available for the sebaceous cysts. The most common method of treatment is when the doctor is draining the cyst or removing it completely. It just depends on the size and area where the cyst can be found. Something that needs to be remembered with the cysts is that when it is removed, there is always the change that it will return.

When the doctor decides to remove the cyst, there are three methods that he chooses from. These are the different methods for removing the sebaceous cysts.

  • The conventional way, but it will leave a scar that not many wants if the cyst is in the facial area
  • A small excision, but the risks are that the cyst will return faster
  • Laser with punch biopsy excision. The latest and most effective way of removing the cyst

Sebaceous cysts aren’t something to worry about. Yes, you might need treatment to prevent it from growing too much. And, there are signs that it might be cancer, where you should get it removed as soon as possible. However, in most cases, the sebaceous cysts aren’t cancerous and can be removed without any problems. Some of the cysts will return, others will disappear forever. When you find a cyst on your body, it is important to get it checked out to make sure that this is only a sebaceous cyst and not something more serious.
