Did you know that over 80% of the population has some form of gum disease. Gum disease is caused by bacteria which live in the plaque and tartar on your teeth. These bacteria produce harmful chemicals that cause your gums to bleed and recede.

There are many ways of how you can help keep you teeth and gums healthy. Avoid sugary foods and drinks. Acidic drinks like fresh juices and fizzy drinks are also best avoided. There are many hidden sugars in foods so check before you eat. Avoid brushing directly after having sugary food or drink. Wait about an hour or chew sugar free gum so that acid levels in the mouth neutralize.

Avoid smoking as it predisposes you to gum disease. Brush and floss your teeth twice daily and have regular check ups at least twice a year.
