The ABCD Healthy™ technique is a new innovative, but very simple, way to insure that individuals are eating a healthy and nutritious meal. It’s even being adopted by grocery stores as a way to help customers feel confident that they are providing completely nutritious meals for themselves and their families. Grocery stores are offering more prepackaged meals for their customers, as people just do not have the time to cook dinners as readily as they used to. The ABCD Healthy™ sticker is being used to indicate to customers that particular meals are healthy and nutritious.
ABCD Healthy™ is also being used by families as a guide for meal planning and grocery shopping. The technique is so simple teachers are using it to educate children on how to build a healthy plate. With health education unfortunately being phased out of public schools, ABCD Healthy™ is an effective way to teach healthy eating in limited time.
The core of the technique is very simple, as follows. Take a regular dinner plate, and divide it into four. Then imagine one wedge labeled A, and the others B, C, and D respectively. The A wedge gets a protein, the B wedge a vegetable, the C wedge a whole grain, and the D wedge a fruit. After some quick education on what are acceptable proteins, vegetables, whole grains, and fruits, ABCD Healthy™ can quickly be implemented in daily life.
An example of a healthy plate would be as follows: A piece of baked chicken is a great choice for (A) protein. For (B) vegetable, a serving of mixed vegetables including carrots and peas is terrific. A freshly baked 100% wheat roll is a perfect (C) whole grain, and some ripe strawberries is a wonderful (D) fruit to round out the completely balanced ABCD Healthy™ meal.
The meals that can be made with this simple technique are endless. So give it a try. This is an easy way for you and your family to start eating healthy.
