Chirpy kids at home is what makes a home a heaven. And if you have your parents to live with you,Make your home safe for your kids and parents Articles believe that you are abundantly blessed by the Almighty. The scene is complete and overwhelming to see your kids hopping around all day long without showing a sign of exhaustion and your parents who are your kids’ best buddies. You will never want to face any unpleasant incidents destroying your happiness. While certain things are inevitable, a lot these misfortunate moments can be avoided by taking simple steps. Here is a check list you will want to get checked for ensuring safety at home, especially for your parents and kids.

General tips:-
Install smoke and fire detectors
Keep fire extinguisher and general medical aid at a place known to all (excluding the kids) and educate the grown ups on how to use them.
Wipe and dry the floors immediately if there is a spill
Have sturdy railings for the stairs
Keep the tangled (or otherwise) electric wires and cables from touching the ground, especially the walkways.
All heavy tools and gadgets, sharp objects especially the kitchen tools should never be misplaced or unattended.
Make sure to smoothen any pointed surfaces on counters, furniture or any built structures.
Ensure you have anti-slip coatings on floor tiles.
Safety measures for kids:-

Kids are huge packets of energy contained in tiny bodies. It is near impossible to have them seated peacefully for a stretch of time. And during their untiring quest to learn more things, injuries are inevitable. While teeny weeny injuries are imperative for their overall growth and development, large injuries can be dangerous, most of which are completely preventable. If you too have such boisterous, energy overdosed kids at home, (who turn the world upside down each day) make sure the below mentioned tips are followed to the core -
Keep drugs, plastic bags, cleaning solutions, sharp tools and gadgets away from kids.(They are very experimental and won’t mind trying these new things out!!)
Keep door locks and keys away from them. Some times, they manage to lock themselves up in a room but fail to unlock it (and you are left with no other option than to break open the door, which is highly risky)
Make sure door locks are put at a height they can't reach easily
While constructing stairs, make sure the balusters are close enough to prevent your kids from falling down through the gap. It is recommended not to have more than 4 inches of gap between two balusters.
Kitchen counter tops should be designed in way that your kids do not reach them and try their hand at cooking. Alternatively, keep the doors closed while you are away from the kitchen.
Power plugs should be provided at a considerable height (to which your kids can’t reach) or should be covered with safety power plug covers.
For senior citizens:-

Things never remain the same. As time passes adulthood gives way to senility. Health starts to deteriorate, people become more dependent and weak. Senility demands time, care and attention of grown up adults so as to avoid preventable accidents and mishappenings. If you are blessed to live with your aged parents, make sure that you follow the basic safety precautions for them.
While designing bedrooms for them, go for floorings that have a good grip (not extra smooth and slippery). Alternatively, the entire floor space can be covered with high grip carpets.
If your parents are quite old and weak, do not allow them to climb stairs of their own. Make sure you have someone available with them all the time.
Whether provided in all bedrooms or not, your parents’ room should definitely possess a bed switch for lights apart from the one at the entrance of the room.
Use door locks that can be opened from both the sides.
It is recommended to keep the lights in their bathroom on all through out the night.
Never let them go oversize with clothes and footwear as the chance of tripping is greater in such situations.
Have calling bells or alarm and a phone installed beside their beds if they are too old to cater to their own needs.
Remember, safety ensures happiness. Never take it lightly. You never want to see your loved ones in pain.
