You should know that the program you are enrolling in must be at least 75 hours long in duration where minimum 16 hours is required for laboratory and skill session. In total, the program must meet the federal requirements of OBRA-87.CNA certification program in Kentucky is basically a combination of educational and clinical nursing skills that prepares students as a proficient nurse aide and makes them confident to fight the state level competency test. The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) administer the CNA competency evaluation test all over the state that consists of both written or oral test and skill demonstration test. The evaluation test question paper is particularly based on curriculum approved by the Nurse Aide Training Advisory committee.The written test contains 75 multiple choice questions where candidates need to score at least 70% marks. That means, they must answer minimum 52 or more question correctly. Students can also go through an oral test instead of written exam if he/she has any difficulty with written English Language. The skill test requires students to perform 5 nursing skills with at least 70% accuracy. The accuracy of the skill performance is evaluated by the instructor. Some steps of a skill are considered as critical steps that must be performed by the candidates with 100% accuracy. In question paper, these steps are marked by a star sign or by other symbol. The KCTCS requires candidates to pass the both sections of the exam successfully. If a student fails in any one part, he is then required to retake the test for that particular part but if he fails in both parts, he must take the whole examination once again. A candidate is provided three chances to challenge the competency test within two years.The test scores are sent to candidates’ postal address by KCTCS. If a student qualifies both sections of the test successfully, his name is transferred to Kentucky Nurse Aide registry. Kentucky Board of Nursing awards certification to those candidates who successfully qualify both parts of the test.
