Summerville tends to be one of home buyers’ top choices of areas to live in the greater Charleston area. This small town is located further inland, which means that land is more affordable. Downtown Charleston is about a 40 minute drive, and the closest beach is less than an hour away.
Because land in Summerville is more affordable, you’ll find many master planned communities to choose from. Developers were able to dedicate larger sections of land towards amenities. So, you’ll find longer lists of communities to choose from with the amenities you want.
I’ve organized these neighborhoods based on the three most popular (and sought after amenities): golf, swimming pool, and tennis courts. All of these subdivisions are located in the city of Summerville. So, I did not include the exterior towns like Ladson that are sometimes grouped along with this area. These groupings are solely for buyers looking for Summerville real estate.
Golf: Summerville has 3 main golfing communities. Wescott Plantation is the most popular (and the most affordable) of the three. You can choose from condos, townhouses, and single family homes. Wescott Plantation is by far the largest subdivision in Summerville. In fact, it is often called the Park West of Summerville. Legend Oaks Plantation is the second most affordable of the three golfing communities in Summerville. Legend Oaks has a slightly more upscale feel to it. In the $200+ price range, you can find your dream home right now from some of the new construction builders. Pine Forest Country Club is the smallest of these three communities, and it has slightly older homes on average. This community is unique in that the land was formerly used by the Hunt Club at Pine Forest Inn. The golf course that belonged to the inn was one of the first seven created in the U.S. However, the course at Pine Forest Country Club has been completely reconstructed.
Pool: You’ll find 20 neighborhoods in Summerville with swimming pools! These include Lakes of Summerville, Buckshire, Wescott Plantation, Kings Grant, Quail Arbor, Irongate, Bridges of Summerville, Brandymill, Legend Oaks Plantation, Ashborough, Sunburst Lakes, Reminisce, White Gables, Myers Mill, Newington Plantation, Pine Forest Country Club, Plum Creek, The Ponds, Weatherstone, and Cane Bay Plantation. The last two subdivisions in this list are located further out, but they’re still in the city of Summerville.
Tennis: Not as many Summerville communities have tennis. Some of these have pools as well, so be sure to compare the Pool and Tennis lists. These include Wescott Plantation, Kings Grants, Brandymill, Quail Arbor, Legend Oaks Plantation, Ashborough, White Gables, Pine Forest Country Club, Country Club Estates, Cane Bay Plantation, and South Pointe.
If neighborhood amenities are an important factor in narrowing down your home search, be sure to talk with your real estate agent so that you only consider those neighborhoods with the amenities you want.
