If you have ever smelled rotten eggs,
or got an odor from a stink bomb which is a like a foul gas smell, you will know how bad they smell. Both these things smell of sulfur, which smells so bad that it makes a person gag. It is the same smell which emanates from a person who suffers from bad breath and that is what makes it so terrible.
What causes this sulfuric smell? It is anaerobic bacteria which is the culprit and which lives and thrives in an oxygen free place. These bacteria feed on food debris which is left in the mouth after eating and drinking. They break down the food particles and as the food gets digested by them, they emit sulfur which mixes with your exhaled breath and comes out from your mouth. If people around you get the smell they will avoid you, and some people may even tell you that you suffer from bad breath and even offer you a minty sweet. How can you get rid of this problem? There are six methods to free yourself from this problem.
You may well be brushing your teeth very well, but do you floss as well? The anaerobic bacteria stay in places which may not be within reach of normal brushing. This particularly happens when food particles and debris gets stuck between your teeth. Flossing is of great help here.
Remember to brush your teeth and gums. Flossing alone with not help, you have to brush very will with a good toothpaste and for the time prescribed. You must brush at the very least twice daily, but try and do it after every meal, especially if you suffer from bad breath, to get rid of the bacteria before they have a chance of multiplying and causing bad odor.
Don’t forget to include your tongue in your oral care routine. Often the tongue is overlooked and it is a place where bacteria comfortably multiply. You can use the back of a spoon to scrape your tongue from the back especially. There are chances that you will something whitish. This is what the bacteria lives in and the cause of the bad smell. If you always include cleaning your tongue in oral care routine, you will greatly reduce the chances of getting bad breath from these bacteria. Regularly scrape and brush your tongue well.
It is important to drink a lot of water. Water hydrates your mouth and will increase the flow of saliva which will wash away the bacteria. Some medicines cause a dry mouth by decreasing the flow of saliva. If you have to take such medicines, you must increase your intake of liquids and keep your mouth moist.
Avoid alcohol based mouthwashes and sweetened gums. Although almost all mouthwashes will help you get rid of the bad breath temporarily in the very least, the alcohol based ones will actually dry out the inside of the mouth, thus reducing the flow of saliva and increasing the likelihood of getting bad breath. Similarly, sugary gums release sugar which is food for the bacteria and so it can also aggravate bad breath. Though you think you may be helping your bad breath, you are actually increasing its incidence. Have sugarless gum which is actually good for you.
If you are a bad breath sufferer, you should keep your dentist’s number handy. Make and keep regular appointments with the dentist, so that you can prevent any further problems which may increase the chances of getting bad breath. And your dentist is the best person who can advise you as to further treatments to get rid of bad breath which will not go away just by brushing, flossing, and scraping.
