• Genioplasty, which is also known as chin augmentation. In this type of plastic surgery the surgeon places an implant in the chin to give the small or receding chin a more natural shape. The surgeon will make the incision and place the implant in the chin pocket, then stitch up the incision.
After the surgery is complete there will be some swelling and bruising in the area around the incision. After about a week, the stitches will be removed and the incision will be checked. Make sure you follow your doctor's instructions to avoid any possible complications that may occur.
Complications from chin surgery are rare, but can occur. These are infections, which are commonly treated with antibiotics, the formation of scar tissue, erosion of the bone, discomfort, and sometimes the loss of some feeling in the chin.
Before you put any money down on plastic surgery, get consultations with several different plastic surgeons so you can make sure that you are comfortable with the surgeon that you are hiring to permanently change your appearance. You will want to see before and after pictures, get references of satisfied patients, and compare prices and finance options as most insurance companies do not cover plastic surgery if the surgery is considered to be elective.
