A balanced diet is a diet which has all the nutrients in the required amount so that a person can be healthy and fit. Couple of years ago, people never bothered about the calories, nutritional values of food or the importance of balanced diet but with the increase incidents of different types of health-related problems people have started taking help of professionals to make their diet plans to remain healthy.

The main nutrients required by our body are the carbohydrates, fats and proteins.  The carbohydrates and fats are important as these provide energy to the body to do the daily activities. Proteins are important for the body for the growth. Apart from these nutrients, vitamins and minerals are also needed for the body in very small amount.

When a person is having the diet plan, it is very important to have items from each food group so that body could have the required amount of all nutrients. So it is very important to take the balanced diet for everyone. One must know the importance of balanced diet-

* The required macronutrient is taken- To maintain and regulate the various body functions; our body needs macronutrients like carbohydrates, fats and proteins. For normal people, the 50% of their body calorie is taken from carbohydrates, 15-20%   from the proteins and the fat has to be the 30%. For the people who are involved in lots of physical activities such as sports people or laborers must have 60-70% of body calorie from the carbohydrates.

* Need of micronutrient such as vitamins and minerals- These are needed in very small amount but are responsible for the regular body functions. Most of the children and teenagers do not like to eat fresh fruits and vegetables which are the main source of vitamins and minerals so in such cases daily vitamin and mineral supplements could be given but with the doctor’s advice only.

* Importance of water- Water has very important role in our diet plan and a balanced diet is not possible without proper intake of water in the body. Water is needed in the formation of blood; maintain the water balance of the body, proper digestion of good. So it is important to consume 6-8 glasses of water in a day and it could be taken in the form of beverages, juices of fruits and vegetables etc.

To remain healthy and fit one has to understand the importance of balanced diet very well.
