Find out why Murray is a great place to live
The area south of Salt Lake City was settled in 1848, one year after settlers arrived to the Salt Lake Valley. In 1903 Murray became an official city and received its name after the territorial governor and civil war general Eli Murray. Today’s population numbers approximately 45,732 with Murray homes numbering 15,968. Median income is about $53,084 and renters make up one-third of the population. A few major businesses in Murray are OCM and Innovations International. Cities just outside of Murray include: Midvale, Cottonwood West, Millcreek, Taylorsville, South Salt Lake, Holladay, East Millcreek and Cottonwood Heights.
Real estate in Utah has seen its ups and downs. Murray real estate has seen mostly downs as both price and the number of homes sold decreased during the second quarter of 2009.
Murray climate is very similar to the rest of northern Utah. Rainfall reaches about 19 inches and snowfall will jump up to 52 inches of snow in one year. Temperature averages a summer high in the low nineties and a winter low in the upper teens. When the weather is nice outside, the local amphitheater will have shows including plays, bands and festivals. When it cools down outside, the events are moved to the schools. Because Murray has been around for over 100 years, several traditions have been developed such as an Easter egg hunt and decorating activities, a Haunted Trail in the park, and the 4th of July Fun Days.
