For the majority of the population, losing weight is a ongoing battle. Maybe you don’t have the time and energy to spend hours a day at the gym. Maybe you do go to the gym regularly, but find it hard to lose that last bit of fat around your stomach. Or maybe you’re in tip top shape and have the body you desire. Wherever you are, this knowledge can help you. Anyone who observes their weight can always learn new methods to make life easier. Below are 10 easy ways to help you in your struggle to shed those pounds!
- Drink lots of H2O Start out your morning with a glass of water. Have a glass of water prior to a meal. Drink a glass of water during your meal. Did I mention drink tons of water? Our minds often can't distinguish between hunger and thirst. Your body may think that you are hungry when in fact you are only thirsty. Drinking water will curb your hunger so you will not crave as much, which means consuming fewer calories.
- Ditch the fizzy drinks. Do away with all the sugared bottled drinks from your diet, especially the sodas. They are full with sugar, and sugar means calories. Find it hard to stop drinking your Coke? If you currently drink a lot of sodas, devise a plan to lower step by step, instead of attempting to stop cold turkey.
- Stuff yourself with fruits and vegetables. Just about all fruits and vegetables are generally very good for your health. Substituting some of the unhealthy foods from your diet with fruits and vegetables will most definitely help you shed pounds. They fill up your stomach fast so you will feel full sooner, and are also low in calories. Don't forget that they are packed with essential fibers, vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants.
- Never skip meals. Skipping that meal has the opposite effect of what you want. Your thinking may conclude that by skipping a meal, you are losing weight. What really happens when you skip a meal is that your body starts to think that food is becoming scarce (as you eat less often), so it stores the low supply of food that you do consume into fat, as a survival mechanism. You should try and aim for 4-6 meals a day. Have 4-6 smaller meals as opposed to 3 large meals.
- Don't overindulge in your sweet tooth. A good rule of thumb to remember is that sweet foods generally mean more calories. Most of us have cravings for sweets such as chocolate and candy. Try and cut down on them, or substitute them with healthier alternatives, such as sweet fruits.
- Indulge in your sweet tooth. In moderation. Don’t be too strict on yourself (by far the easiest tip on this list!). Having a small treat once in a while won’t affect your body that much. Being too restrictive and attempting to make too big of a change in your diet may simply lead to a relapse. The important thing is to make sure that you observe the frequency and quantity of each indulgence.
- Chew your food......a lot. Develop the habit of chewing your food thoroughly. Saliva plays an important role in digesting food. Swallowing your food too fast does not allow your saliva from doing what it's supposed to, making it unnecessarily harder for your body to digest your food. Also, by chewing your food longer, it makes you eat slower; giving your brain more time to realize that it's full. You will eat less because you don't feel as hungry.
- Find exercise that suits your lifestyle. If you really want to lose weight, you WILL have to get involved with some exercise to really get slimmer. You don’t have to join a gym if that’s not your cup of tea. Take yoga classes. Take up hiking. Play tennis. Whatever you prefer, find an activity which gets your heart rate up and your body in motion. Make it something that you are excited for each week!
- Find a supporting Cast. Joining up with friends and family who support your cause will make things much easier, and more pleasant! Having your family members boost and praise your growth will provide strength in keeping you highly motivated. Having friends who are in the same situation as you can make weight loss a fun, social topic that you can collaborate and bond over.
- Get more zzz's. People who are don't get adequate sleep tend to secrete more of the hormone Cortisol, which makes them more stressed out, which triggers fat storage. Lack of sleep also affects other hormones which tell your body whether you’re hungry or full, which can lead to overeating.
Remember that these tips are not the one all end all solution for getting the body you want. Simply using these 10 tips alone won’t get you that flat stomach or make you look like a model. For you to lose weight and keep it off, you must have a good diet and exercise plan. If you only apply one of these tips above and add in it into your life, it can make slimming down that much easier for you. Hopefully you will eventually incorporate all these tips into your lifestyle and help you in achieving the body you want.
