In a recent article in the LA Times, “Shaping How Americans Eat” Melissa Healy professionally summarizes findings of a 677 pages long and two years in the making report from the US government: the Report of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010. Now that’s a title.
I am going to quote parts of her intro. Then comment.
“It not only squarely addresses the undeniable- that two-thirds of American adults are either overweight or obese and that our children are on a similar trajectory- it also recasts some advice that we have heard before urging Americans, for instance, to shift their diets away from red meat and animal protein an d fats – foods such as red meat, cheese, and butter – toward a more “plant-based diet,” a term that includes not just fresh fruits and vegetables but also foods such as nuts and lentils and olive and canola oil.
Then the repost goes further. It recommends that we slash our salt intake by almost a third. It makes clear that people put their health at risk when they, on a weekly basis, do less than 2 ½ hours of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of high-intensity exercise. And it discusses at length the social and economic forces at work that have made good diets and exercise easy for Americans to achieve.”
As I wrote in my title, the information is out there.
Our focus needs to be on changing our priorities from an illness model to a wellness model. We can no longer blame our problems on lack of good information. From my perspective, ignorance of the truth is no longer acceptable. Obvious healthy CHOICES are available.
What we continue to lack is clarity of our individual mindset. We need to prioritize our own priorities.
We get distracted and confused by conflicting oppositional corporate and governmental priorities. Their priorities are not always in your best interest. Their priorities are in their best interests. Until our wellness priorities are addressed, people will have neither the mindset nor the incentive to change.
It all begins with you!
Are you willing to immediately begin to follow and then build from obvious healthy nutritional food, exercise and stress relief programs that are readily available?
Are you willing to follow the specific recommendations found in the above referenced article?

It all begins with you prioritizing wellness over illness and dedicating the time, energy and money that is necessary to build your personal wellness lifestyle plan now and forever.
